Web Developer Wanted!

Part Time, Leading to Full Time

£23k to £35k per year (pro rata)

We need to add a web developer to our team. Someone with good experience in PHP, HTML, CSS, LESS, JavaScript, jQuery and WordPress.

This is a rare opportunity to join an unusual, very niche organization, based in Newcastle upon Tyne (NE13 area) and serving physical therapists all around the world. We provide websites and SEO along with ongoing technical and marketing support to our growing list of clients and we need you to help us continue to serve these clients at the high level they expect from us and also to help us grow so we can serve even more clients.

What We've Got For You...

  • A supportive working environment where you will be a valued member of our team and your voice will be heard
  • A position with room for growth in a steadily expanding niche web development and online marketing organization with clients worldwide
  • The opportunity to serve clients in ways that will really make a difference to their businesses
  • Flexible working hours

What We're Looking for in You...

You don't need years and years of industry experience (although that would of course be most welcome). You just need to be able to demonstrate that you really do know what you’re talking about when it comes to web development. You will need to PROVE that you have the required skills - if you are selected for first interview it will take place on Zoom and you will be required to share your screen and show working projects and your development environment. We need someone who loves writing markup and code and also enjoys working with WordPress. If you have experience creating WordPress plugins that would be a definite advantage.

This is not really a client-facing role although there may be occasions when you need to meet with clients on Zoom and you will certainly need to communicate with clients by email and via our support ticket system. The role doesn’t involve any selling or pitching for new business. It’s a purely technical role, to provide support for existing websites (mostly WordPress) and assist in the building of new sites. No design skills required (but if you have an eye for design then that could be useful at times).

You will be joining a small team (currently the business owner / web developer, a project manager, another web developer and an SEO specialist) and you will be a very important part of that team and of the growth of the business.

Initially this will be a part time role with flexible hours. As the business grows (we have been on a steady upward growth path for the last 5 years) you will be asked to work more hours. Eventually, we anticipate this being a full time role (although if you only wanted to work a maximum of 30 hours a week in the future, we could probably accommodate that!). This role could be ideal for someone who is currently freelancing and would like a little bit of stability and predictability in their income while continuing with their freelance work.

The ideal candidate:

  • Aligns with our core values (see below)
  • Loves writing code
  • Can prove that they know what they’re doing (bluffers will be detected!)
  • Has a solid understanding of WordPress
  • Enjoys working in PHP frameworks
  • Has experience in optimizing sites for performance (decreasing load time)
  • Has a good knowledge of web hosting and DNS
  • Knows their way around an IDE such as PHP Storm
  • Has experience with version control (preferably Subversion)
  • Likes to be held accountable for their work
  • Is able to listen, so they can understand team and client requests, and is able to explain things clearly to the rest of the team and to clients. This is of paramount importance!
  • Has some experience with marketing automation platforms like Infusionsoft and ActiveCampaign
  • Has some understanding of digital marketing (useful, not essential)
  • Reads industry news regularly and enjoys talking about what they’ve learned and what’s going on in web development and WordPress

And It's Essential That You Align With Our Core Values...

  • Integrity, honesty and accountability
  • Encourage initiative and self improvement
  • Treat everyone with respect
  • Share knowledge to support and empower others (my success is your success)
  • Kindness, empathy and a non-judgemental way

Your Main Responsibilities Will Be...

  • Building bespoke sales pages using PHP, HTML, CSS
  • Integrating Infusionsoft forms into WordPress websites (training will be provided)
  • Updating legacy PHP sites
  • Maintaining existing WordPress websites
  • Figuring out elegant solutions to clients’ requests
  • Geeking out with the rest of the team

  • The opportunity to be involved in a niche business where you can directly influence its future success - we have ambition to grow and most importantly, ambition to be a great place to work.
  • Flexible working hours. If you can’t start until 10am or you need to leave by 3pm that’s no problem! Due to time differences with the majority of our clients we do sometimes work late at home but you’re not required to do this (nor expected to).
  • A spacious office in the North of Newcastle, close to the A1 and A19. A calm environment (not “fast-paced” like you might see advertised on other web dev roles), nice background music and colleagues who support each other.
  • Mentoring and professional development opportunities - we want you to develop, both professionally and personally.

You will learn a lot about direct response marketing and specifically about marketing for physical therapy / physiotherapy. You will also have the opportunity to (and be encouraged to) listen in on regular live group coaching calls with a hugely influential marketing and business expert in the physical therapy world as well as join in a members-only (500+ members) Facebook group for physical therapists where they discuss all aspects of business with a strong emphasis on marketing.

Plus, more benefits will be added as the company grows! And you could even be helping us figure out what those benefits are 🙂

How to Apply...

First, please read this page thoroughly to avoid wasting your time and ours. This is NOT a trainee role - you MUST know your stuff and be able to prove it!
